Fish you were here? Animal group wants to replace iconic Jolly Fisherman

AN ANIMAL rights organisation has sent a letter to the mayor of Skegness asking him to replace the Jolly Fisherman statue with a fish sculpture named The Happy Plaice ~ but the town council has rebuffed the idea.

PETA says it first suggested the town replace the Jolly Fisherman 10 years ago, and still feels a modern and fish-friendly mascot would be good for the popular holiday destination.
But Skegness Town Council remains unconvinced and has confirmed that the seaside town will continue to be the home of the Jolly Fisherman, which has welcomed visitors for more than a century.
