PEOPLE LOVE HIS ZANY TIKTOK REVIEWS

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS lynette.pinchess@reachplc.com @LynettePinchess

A NOTTINGHAMSHIRE man has reeled in millions of views on social media for his videos of reviews of tinned fish from all over the world.

Marcus Ansell, known to his followers as @TinnedFishReviews, has 615,000 followers on TikTok, where he opens and taste-tests cans of fish including trout, salmon, mackerel and sardines.

Usually wearing a fez and sitting at his home near Newark, Marcus uses his videos to explore the weird and wonderful and everything in between, from tins of sardines from Asda to exotic canned seafood shipped in from Japan.

And, in his most popular video - which has so far gained an incredible six million views - he is seen tucking into a tin of Surstromming, a lightly salted fermented Baltic Sea herring which smells so bad he has to open the can while holding it underwater.

Marcus started his videos 18 months ago when his sister sent him four different types of tinned fish for Christmas. A newcomer to TikTok and keen to see what would happen, he decided to ask his wife, Lucy, to film him opening one of the tins and then giving his verdict.

The video, featuring bay mackerel in olive oil, was a hit, encouraging him to post another, this time featuring more mackerel, in a hot and spicy sauce. More reviews followed, with Marcus featuring tins of tuna and sardines from his local supermarket and then deciding to get his dog Arthur, an eight-year-old collie/ Great Pyrenees cross, in on the act.
