ESCAPING the rat race proved the seed of a classic comedy.
The Good Life launched on the BBC 50 years ago on April 4, 1975, and saw Richard Briers as 40something Tom Good ditching his job as a draughtsman at JJM Company and adopting a self-sufficient lifestyle in Surbiton with his wife Barbara (Felicity Kendal).
