Council HQ 'filling up rapidly' as building's sale could be avoided

NOTTINGHAM City Council's HQ is said to be "filling up rapidly" as the previously suggested sale of the site may now be avoided.

The authority's leader says renting out more of the building could be a better option if the council decides it no longer needs it.

The huge Loxley House building was built in the early 2000s and council cost-cutting meant two floors were left vacant.

However, with tenants now occupying those floors, the lead government official sent to improve the authority says selling it may not end up being the best option.

Tony McArdle, first appointed as lead commissioner at the council in February last year, previously said the way Loxley House was being used was not sustainable.

The commissioner, who is set to leave the council along with his team next February, also said a review was under way of all the city council's assets as more and more of them are sold to balance the books.
