Cooling towers that will follow Cottam into the Great Beyond

EARLIER this month saw the end of the first power station cooling towers to be demolished in the county for over a decade.

Cottam Power Station, near Retford, had its eight towers brought down in a series of explosions across 10 seconds.
As the county shifts from coal-fired energy towards new forms of production, cooling towers at the following sites will face a similar fate in the coming years:
WEST BURTON
The West Burton Power Station is set to become the pioneer for fusion energy when the STEP plant opens there in 2040.
The major project is expected to create about 10,000 jobs and has received billions of pounds in government investment.
