Community centre chief hopeful as deadline nears

A COMMUNITY centre manager is hopeful there could be some compromise on a “rigid” eviction date.

The “drop-dead date” of March 31 is rapidly approaching, by which time city community centres will need to have decided on whether to continue with new city council arrangements or leave their sites.

Campaigners say the deadline could be too arbitrary if sites wanting to continue under the new arrangements were unable to meet the deadline by a few weeks or months, given the work required signing leases and the fact that the centres are run by volunteers.
