Chief Constable to step down after cancer diagnosis
Nottingham Post
|October 02, 2025
THE Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police is stepping down from her position after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.

Police Chief Constable Kate Meynell
Kate Meynell, who became the county's top police officer in December 2022, will retire in March.
Ms Meynell, who had previously taken time off work to be treated for cancer, said she “cannot foresee a time in the near future when I will be able to give my all to the role”.
As a result, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Gary Godden has asked Deputy Chief Constable Steve Cooper who temporarily took over Ms Meynell’s duties since May to continue to do so as she remains absent from work due to ill health.
