Another Anfield raid can be springboard for Forest

It was a return to the qualities and type of performance that had previously served the Reds so well. Defensive solidity was the cornerstone of last season's success.

Those principles rather went out the window under Ange Postecoglou but Dyche has pressed the reset button and instilled a focus on doing the basics.

The partnership of Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo was back to its imperious best and there was also a return to form for Matz Sels. Williams and fellow fullback Nicolo Savona completed a formidable back line.

But this was also a collective effort. Elliot Anderson set the tone with a big block early on and, to a man, everyone did their bit.

Pressing the advantage

Slot stood on the sidelines mouth agog when the visitors' third went in. He was gobsmacked.

One of the many standout aspects of this result was how the Reds worked to press home their advantage. They were hungry for more. Dyche-ball was in full flow.

A year ago, they had triumphed by a single goal. This result was significantly more emphatic and Forest might have bumped up the scoreline even further.

Igor Jesus could certainly feel aggrieved at having a goal ruled out two minutes after Murillo had made the breakthrough. The ruling was handball against the Brazilian but it was a baffling decision.
