Yacht club’s young pirates work gains national win

SAILING club has been recognised on the national stage after winning a prestigious award for its work in inspiring the next generation of sailors.

North Devon Yacht Club (NDYC), based at Instow, has been named the winner of the Royal Yachting Association’s (RYA) Award for Young Persons.

The accolade was presented at the RYA Dinghy Show in London, in recognition of the club's efforts to grow youth participation and provide opportunities for children to develop sailing skills and confidence.

Club manager Eric Evans described the win as “a really nice surprise” and “a real turning point” for the club, crediting the success to the “heroic work” of volunteers.
