Micron India plant to make chips next year

The first semiconductor chip from US-based Micron Technology Inc.’s plant in India will roll out by December 2024, said Ashwini Vaishnaw, minister for railways, electronics, IT and telecom.

NEW DELHI: “The first semiconductor unit of India will be set up by Micron Technologies... We’re hopeful that within the next six quarters, we should have the first made-in-India semiconductor chip rolling out of this factory," Vaishnaw said in an interview. “Micron leads the memory chip manufacturing used by laptops, mobiles, servers, electric vehicles and telecom equipment and is the fifth largest semiconductor company in the world. So, it’s a very big endorsement of our semiconductor program," he added.

Meanwhile, companies that submitted their applications last year under the $10 billion financial incentive scheme have been asked to reapply.
