My parents' marriage was not valid as per Hindu law.

- Shaishavi Kadakia & Sachi Shah

Invalid marriages: Can a child get inheritance?

They were separated legally when I was a minor and my father remarried. I have been living with my mother ever since. I have been informed that since their marriage was not valid, I have no rights to my father's property and can only inherit my mother's property.

My father passed away without a will. He had a share in joint family properties and other personal assets he had bought. Can I inherit my late father's properties?

—Name withheld on request

If you were born out of a void marriage or a voidable marriage that was annulled, you would have a share in the inheritance of your late father's properties as per Hindu law.
