Centre, states net record GST in April on year-end sales

Central and state governments collected a record ₹2.36 trillion in goods and services tax (GST) revenue before refunds in April, reflecting financial year-end spike in sales in March, showed official data.
April GST revenue collection shows a 12.6% annual increase at the gross level.
GST revenue collection tends to be strong in the first month of the financial year as companies clear their inventory to meet sales target in March.
After adjusting for tax refunds, revenue collection from the indirect tax stood at ₹2.09 trillion in April, a rise of over 9% annually. GST revenue from domestic transactions and imports grew in April by 10.7% and 20.8% respectively.
