Tata Steel to cut 1,600 jobs at Dutch unit to save €500 mn in costs

Tata Steel's Netherlands business reported revenues of €3.9 billion in the first nine months of FY25

Tata Steel Netherlands on Wednesday said it will lay off about 1,600 people—nearly a fifth of the 9,000-strong workforce at its IJmuiden steel factory—and take other measures that could save over €500 million (about ₹4,800 crore) in costs in fiscal year 2026 (FY26).

The company will change its organization structure, which would result in a smaller workforce. The redundancies will mostly be in management roles and support functions. The steelmaker will also work on increasing production efficiency, lowering fixed costs and optimizing product mix to reduce expenses.
