Nagpur police have booked Fahim Khan, a key accused in the recent violence that erupted in the city, along with five others on charges of sedition and spreading misinformation through social media, officials said on Thursday. The action comes as authorities relaxed the curfew in parts of the city three days after the unrest.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) Lohit Matani, the investigation revealed that misleading videos circulating online played a significant role in triggering the violence. "Misinformation was initially spread through social media platforms, which fuelled tensions.
