'Tara, Basa!' enters 3rd year: DSWD's reading tutoring program begins May 19

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will launch the third year of its “Tara, Basa!” tutoring program on Monday, May 19 to boost literacy among grade school students and strengthen parental support through learning sessions for parents or guardians.
DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao on Thursday, May 15 announced that the program is set to benefit 138,407 participants, including college student tutors, incoming Grade 2 learners, and their parents or guardians.
"The DSWD is now ready for the expanded Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program. We have been conducting several capacity-building and training sessions for college students who will be deployed as tutors and youth development workers (YDWs) to ensure that they are ready to teach struggling or non-reader elementary students and their parents or guardians," Dumlao said.
