True confidence isn’t found in your feed—it’s in the choices that fit your life

Scroll less, style better

Last year, while on hiatus from Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, I got sucked into the social media rabbit hole. I set aside my editor's thinking cap and allowed myself to experience things the way most people do as a regular consumer.

Much of that time was spent scrolling through my phone, discovering new media companies, influencers, and content creators. That’s when it really hit me how easy it is to be swayed in this world of social media, not just by traditional advertising but by personal recommendations, style suggestions, and strategic marketing presented as aspirational everyday content.

In a way, what we watch or see now feels like the TV commercials of the past—only more personal, more creative, and far more constant. And with these over-stimulating “reminders” popping up non-stop, it can get overwhelming.
