Poe urges gov’t, telcos to address rise in scam calls

Senator Grace Poe on Friday, April 4, said the sudden increase in the number of scam calls is disturbing, given the enactment into law of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Law and the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs).
Poe made the assessment following a report by anti-scam application Whoscall saying that scam calls in the Philippines has increased by 74.32 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the previous quarter.
Ongolook, Whoscall app developer, and the private sector partner of the Government’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), expressed belief the trend clearly demonstrates a shift in scammers’ tactics.
