Midterm polls fuel surge in manufacturing growth

While Philippine factory growth bounced back in April partly due to the upcoming midterm elections, experts believe manufacturing expansion will slow down after the elections.
After dropping to its steepest decline in nearly four years, the country's factory growth reversed and showed signs of recovery in April.
"Both output and new orders reported fresh increases in April, with the respective rates of growth sharp and historically strong," S&P Global said in a Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) report, released on Friday, May 2.
According to S&P Global's report, the country's PMI climbed back beyond the neutral 50 mark in April, the beginning of the second quarter and a month away from the midterm polls. It jumped to 53, reflecting a "renewed improvement in the health of the Filipino manufacturing sector."
