President Marcos has appointed lawyer Francis Edralin Lim as the new chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin announced this on Tuesday, June 3, the same day of his designation.
“Today, the President has appointed lawyer Francis Edralin Lim as the incoming chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC),” Bersamin said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Lim will replace incumbent chairman Emilio Aquino, whose term will expire on June 5, 2025.
According to Bersamin, Lim is a distinguished member of the legal and financial communities and “has an extensive background in corporate and securities law.”
Bersamin said Lim "brings to this office decades of experience in corporate law, governance, and capital markets regulation." "His leadership is expected to strengthen investor confidence and further promote transparency, innovation, and inclusive growth in the Philippine financial sector," Bersamin said.
The Palace official further said that Lim has contributed significantly to investor protection and market transparency through both his professional work and his academic involvement.

This is a time for ideas, not just emotions
In last week's column, I tackled how our political and economic uncertainties need meaningful discussion so that solutions can be pursued. The inability to do that will leave us mired in repetitive drama, with much noise but little meaning needed to move forward. This breeds despair and anxiety, and a lack of hope for the future.
