Vet calls for ban on private fireworks
Manchester Evening News
|November 02, 2022
A VET from Dorset - whose dog was traumatised when a firework landed in her house - has called for private firework displays to be banned.
-
Gemma Burden, from Corfe Mullen, said the use of fireworks should be heavily restricted and planned ahead.
This weekend, Friday, November 4 and Saturday, November 5, is expected to be a loud one.
Fireworks displays both at large-scale events and in gardens will go ahead across much of the county.
But while bonfire night is this Saturday, some people have already begun to celebrate and let off the explosives ahead of time, even late at night.
As a veterinary nurse, Mrs Burden explained that she is "particularly familiar" with the problems fireworks cause for animals and that they should be heavily limited, even suggesting they're banned for private use.
"It's not uncommon for animals to be scared to the point of injuring themselves," Mrs Burden said.
