MI5 accused of 'running false narrative' after Arena atrocity

Pete Weatherby KC said requiring the security service to 'tell the truth' would mean the public is safer in the future.

He was speaking after families bereaved by the attack said MI5 failed them and must be more open to scrutiny. In a letter to the Prime Minister they said the security service should be fully included in the so-called Hillsborough Law designed to stop cover-ups in public life.

"How many times must MI5 show that it cannot be trusted before something is done?" the letter said, according to the BBC. Mr Weatherby KC told BBC Radio 4 that campaigners know that there will always be evidence that cannot go into the public domain.
