Wildlife trust welcomes Moss decision

CHESHIRE Wildlife Trust has welcomed the news that Cheshire East’s proposals for large scale development at Danes Moss have been scrapped.

The charity, one of the opponents to the scheme, has battled against it for a decade and says the decision is a ‘triumph for common sense’

As revealed in last week's Express, the council has said it will not proceed with current plans for the South Macclesfield Development Area (SMDA).

This included 950 homes, a link road, new school, retail and offices at a 55 hectare site many said was vital for habitat, wildlife and climate change.

The authority still intends some form of development but on a smaller scale.

Dr Rachel Giles from Cheshire Wildlife Trust, said: “We've been objecting the South Macclesfield Development Area for over ten years now, so it’s fantastic that the council have recommended that it should be scrapped.
