Warriors fall just short of comeback

BETFRED Super League leaders Wigan were unable to pull off a memorable comeback as they were beaten 24-22 by struggling Hull at the MKM Stadium.

Warriors fall just short of comeback

The Warriors turned in an uncharacteristically sloppy display, making numerous defensive errors to slip to just their third league reverse of the season.

Similarly this was just Hull's third success of the campaign in the league, with Jack Walker, Liam Sutcliffe, Davy Litten and Denive Balmforth all scoring tries and Jack Charles converting all four of his efforts on goal.

Liam Marshall crossed twice and Brad O'Neill and Zach Eckersley also scored tries as Wigan threatened a dramatic late comeback having trailed by 20 points going into the final quarter of the match.

Hull handed a start to Ed Chamberlain, who arrived on loan from Leigh this week ahead of a permanent switch at the end of the season, while fellow loanee King Vuniyayawa was named on the bench.

Walker and Litten also came into the starting line-up following last week's derby defeat to Hull KR.
