Pub's festival aims to help secure future

A GREATER Manchester pub has announced a new initiative to help secure its future.

The Old Abbey Taphouse in Hulme will hold a three-day festival in a bid to raise enough money to stop it from closing its doors.

The venue, which is a social enterprise functioning as a pub, music venue, catering kitchen, radio station, work space and youth training centre, will hold the event over the August Bank Holiday next month.

It aims to raise £15,000 to secure the future of the community venue.

Once a derelict site, and the last remaining building on what was the Greenhey's Estate, it is now known for its community focused initiatives.

As well as providing more than 12,000 meals during the pandemic, it also served as a warm bank to allow people in the area to use its facilities during the energy crisis over winter.

It comes just three weeks after the venue issued a warning following its decision to close part of its operation.

The pub and music venue announced earlier this month that it would be closing its kitchen for daily use with immediate effect.
