Family's anguish as police probe mystery death

A MAN found dead in the River Irwell in Salford has been named as Richard Crawt.

A body was recovered from the stretch of the river near Riverside in Lower Broughton on Sunday March 9.

It has now confirmed to be that of Richard, known as Rick, and who was in his 40s. His death is being treated as 'unexplained' by detectives.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Richard's family have tonight issued an appeal for information as they try to piece together what happened.

GMP said he had been living in a blue tent which was believed to have been pitched on a sandy beached area near the Meadows in Salford on Saturday, March 1.
