Cargo expansion at airport ‘could create 21,000 jobs’

PROPOSAL TO DEVELOP FOUR AREAS AROUND THE RUNWAY TO MEET DEMAND
EAST Midlands Airport (EMA) has unveiled plans it says could create more than 20,000 jobs by making land around its runway available for development.
The proposals were unveiled yesterday at UKREiiF, a major real estate investment and infrastructure forum held in Leeds.
Four sites on the airfield totalling more than 50 hectares have been earmarked for development “to maximise the airport's potential and build on its success as the UK’s number one hub for express air freight”.
A spokesman said EMA “is now open to expressions of interest from potential developers about how to take these opportunities forward”.
Two of the plots have tax site status as part of East Midlands Freeport.
This offers businesses investing in the sites tax incentives and simplified customs processes.
