A device thrown by a counter-protester at an anti-Islam demonstration in New York City was confirmed to be an improvised explosive, according to a preliminary police analysis released Sunday.
Two people were in custody for their alleged role in the confrontation, which unfolded during a “Stop the Islamic Takeover of New York City” event Saturday led by far-right activist and pardoned Jan. 6 rioter Jake Lang outside the Manhattan residence of Mayor Zohran Mamdani. A demonstrator associated with the Lang-led group was also arrested.
