James Tarkowski and Jake O’Brien, moved into centre back in response to Keane’s issue, dominated in the aerial battles and Dyche accepted it was a tactic that did not yield success.

Moyes has often referred back to the defence Dyche left him with when lauding the clean sheets they have delivered him and that it was the likes of Tarkowski and Vitalii Mykolenko - key players on his watch - who thwarted his Forest side was not lost on him.

When it was pointed out to him after the game, he said: “I taught them lads well, you know.”

He added: “There is no question on them. That was a good away performance for that reason.

“They stayed resolute despite all the really powerful stats. They never really looked [in trouble], the two centre-halves I thought were excellent - the back four really, staying in situ, not really being adventurous, but they won the game and I am a great believer in winning.”

While Jordan Pickford, Tarkowski and Mykolenko were crucial to Dyche’s Everton, Jake O’Brien and Nathan Patterson might beg to differ over his influence - neither getting much of a look in under Dyche.

Old hero haunts City Ground

It was an old favourite for Forest who was responsible for the damage though.
