TALKS OPEN AS SMITH SAYS HE'S UP FOR THE FIGHT IN EARLY '26

- By CONNOR O'NEILL

Callum has that Morrell motivation

CALLUM Smith has revealed that he is in negotiations with David Morrell - and opened up on why a showdown with David Benavidez never materialised.

It was confirmed back in August that Smith had been ordered to defend his WBO ‘interim’ light-heavyweight title against Morrell.

And Smith has now revealed that the fight is likely to take place on a Turki Alalshikh card in Saudi Arabia at the start of next year.

“The WBO have ordered me to fight David Morrell for the interim title, so that is the fight that is in negotiations now,” he said.

“I have spoken to Eddie and they have agreed to put it on in 2026 with Turki. That is the latest I have heard, but I have had no final confirmation.

“But I am hearing early 2026 over in Riyadh. It is a good fight and a fight that I like. It is a fight that does motivate me, as I think he is a good fighter.”
