£100m AI centre can help city global tech leader

A NEW £100m AI centre in Liverpool will help the city cement its position as a world leader in technology and could bring hundreds of millions of pounds more investment into the city, university bosses say.

The University of Liverpool yesterday revealed plans for the new national centre where researchers will look at how AI can be used in chemistry to help create hi-tech new materials and products.

That AI lab will be based in a new £111m building the university is planning on campus and hopes to open by 2031. The university says the project will help strengthen the Liverpool City Region and the UK's position as "a global leader in AI-driven materials research, development, and innovation".

University vice-chancellor Professor Tim Jones announced the latest plans at his annual conference in Liverpool, which was attended by tech leaders and academics from the North West and beyond.
