University highlights its key economic role

EVERY £1 spent running De Montfort University generates nearly £9 in economic and social value, according to a new report.

Analysts at Hatch Associates looked at the economic and social impact of DMU's students, graduates, staff, research and innovation over a 12-month period to produce the report, which also found the following:

■Students' spending pumps about £90 million into the region's economy and supports 2,700 jobs across Leicestershire;

■The university spends £12.5 million every year with East Midlands businesses through its supply chain, including £9.9 million in Leicester and Leicestershire;

■Nationally, DMU helps generate £690 million in economic activity in the UK and supports more than 9,000 jobs.
