DAUGHTER OF MANSLAUGHTER VICTIM CALLS FOR INVESTIGATION OF
-
received a three-year youth rehabilitation order following a high-profile trial at Leicester Crown Court.
Susan, one of Mr Kohli’s three children, described her father as “the most gentle soul you can meet” who was “jolly, loving, absolutely loving.”
She said: “He was just so kind and caring. He wouldn't go in angry at anyone.”
The clearest evidence of what could have been prevented came just over two weeks before his death.
THE 17-DAY DELAY
On August 17, another Asian man was attacked in the Franklin Park area of Braunstone Town.
Susan witnessed youths throwing stones at the victim, subjecting him to racial abuse and spitting at him.
Police correctly identified it as a racially aggravated assault.
Within two days, both suspects were identified via CCTV, but despite the clear video evidence, arrests were not made until September 5.
Mr Kohli was attacked on September 1.
This 17-day gap violated the force’s own guidance stating arrests should be made at the “earliest practical opportunity,’ with the investigating officer blaming workload and a bank holiday, which fell on August 26 last year.
Susan claimed: “If they had taken action immediately after they identified the two children, this incident on September 1 with my dad could have been avoided.
“The only time they took action is when somebody lost their life. We all put our trust in the police to take action. They failed to do that.”
'HARASSMENT IGNORED'
The pattern began in June 2024, when youths climbed on a neighbour’s garage roof near Mr Kohli’s home.
On July 3, the harassment escalated when youths spat at Mr Kohli outside his home.
When Susan intervened, they called her a racial slur and told her to “go back to where you belong”.
The incident was reported through the online police system and police conducted door-to-door inquiries.
