Stunning festive production is one of my favourite things

THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT: Young stars of The Sound of Music

The dramatic set design for this musical, by Michael Taylor, is a visual masterpiece. The backdrop to the set represents the glorious Austrian Alps, complete with tall trees.

The Sound of Music is based on the real life story of Maria Rainer, taken from the 1959 stage musical composed by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II with the book by Howard Lindsay and Russell Crouse.

The musical is set in 1930s Austria in Salzburg and follows Maria, a novice at a convent, who is hired as a governess to look after the seven Von Trapp children.

Initial scenes introduce Maria, played by Molly Lynch, who plays the role exquisitely. Her rendition of the titular song is just beautiful.
