Mister Winston a winner and Christian at Haydock

September 27, 2025

MISTER Winston can secure victory in the bet365 Cambridgeshire (Heritage Handicap) (3.40pm) at Newmarket this afternoon. While on the final Saturday Flat meeting of the season at Haydock Park, Christian David can win the Oddschecker Handicap (3.15pm).

Andrew Balding’s three-year-old Mister Winston can take the step up to 1mlf in his stride and land the prestigious handicap at Headquarters.

The Cambridgeshire is always a tricky handicap but many times it has paid to look away from the favourites and at biggish odds Mister Winston looks to hold an excellent each-way chance and may just come out on top.

The Churchill colt has done much of his running at around a mile with some success.

But this slight step up in distance can bring out improvement to help him land a third career success on just his ninth start.

Mister Winston, who will be ridden by Nicola Currie, won a seven-and-a-half-furlong maiden at Chester at the end of June and was fourth, not beaten that far, behind the John and Thady Gosden-trained Fifth Column, who will be a rival again, in the bet365 Mile on the July course at Newmarket.

He scored back at Newmarket last month before finishing fourth again behind another two Cambridgeshire rivals - Simon and Ed Crisford’s Tribal Chief and the David Menusier-trained Treble Tee - at Goodwood at the end of August and that race could be a key one for this contest. Both those rivals and Fifth Column are much shorter in the market and can all go well.

A high draw has tended to be advantageous and Mister Winston will come from stall 17, which looks decent. So on revised terms with his rivals and with the extra distance Mister Winston makes plenty of appeal to turn around that form and triumph.
