House roof destroyed as battery sets alight

A HOME has been badly damaged by a fire caused by an overheated lithium-ion battery.
Firefighters were called to the property in Brendon Close, Shepshed, after the blaze broke out in the early hours of Monday, spreading from the garage to the upper part of the house.
The fire service said smoke alarms alerted the occupants, who escaped safely and warned their neighbours.
