1970s BUILDINGS TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH LANDCSAPED GARDENS AND NEW HOUSING

- By HANNAH RICHARDSON

DISUSED council offices are being demolished ahead of major redevelopment plans.

The work to tear down the former home of North West Leicestershire District Council, in Coalville, marks the first step in regenerating the area around Stenson House, in London Road.

Ultimately, the scheme is expected to see a new public garden complete with a fountain, planted archway, woodland play trial, and seating.

New homes are also proposed for part of the site, with 38 properties on the cards for the area behind Stenson House.

Improvements are also planned for the site’s car park.

Stenson House itself will remain, and will continue to be used for weddings and council meetings, the authority has said.

The demolition work is now anticipated to take 12 weeks, despite previous expectations it would require around a month to complete.
