City second worst for rowdy drunks

THE centre of Leicester has more public order offences reported than any other town or city centre apart from Leeds, new figures show.

The West Yorkshire city topped the charts for offences that cause alarm, fear or distress with 1,355 in total in 2024.

Leicester city centre was in second place for England and Wales, with 1,179. Public order offences relate to rowdy drunks, threatening thugs and fist fights.

This type of crime includes offences such as violent disorder, affray and rioting, as well as hate crimes, threatening behaviour or being drunk and disorderly.

The statistics from 2024 are based on policing areas. Leicester's city centre’s figure of 1,179 compare to 562 in the centre of Nottingham, 669 in Derby, 438 in Coventry city centre and 216 in Northampton town centre.
