Our strange desire to leave a physical mark on the natural world is helping to destroy it for future generations

- SUSAN LEE

A COUPLE of years ago, in an outbreak of romantic thoughtfulness, my husband suggested we visit The Giant's Causeway for our wedding anniversary.

A man entirely disinterested in folklore, geology or anything Irish, he nevertheless knew the National Trust site was on my bucket list of must-sees, so off we went, flying into Belfast and then travelling up the coast.

And the place was everything I hoped it would be. Atmospheric, beautiful and full of myths and legends. Even my other half was impressed, although that may have been something to do with the fabulous tea and cakes in the cafe.

This being our anniversary, we took a few snaps to capture the day, but that was all we took although we noticed others snaffling bits of the Causeway’s basalt columns as souvenirs.
