WATSON AND CHISSELL PUT ON 112 TO STEER FOXES OVER THE LINE

Century stand secures a One Day Cup victory

A PARTNERSHIP of 112 from Ellen Watson and Caitlin Chissell steered Leicestershire Women to victory against Gloucestershire in their Metro Bank One Day Cup fixture at Uptonsteel Grace Road.

Thick cloud loomed over Leicester as home skipper Lucy Western won the toss and elected to field first.

The visitors started strongly with the bat, putting 48 runs on the board in the first 10 overs.

But Meg Ahearne had struggled to score freely and eventually hit a leading edge straight to Chissell, falling to the bowling of Prisha Thanawala for 11.

But the Foxes were labouring, Becca Halliday capitalising on a plethora of poor deliveries on her way to a half century.

She met her end not long after, a diving catch from Thanawala removing the opener for 55.

By drinks, Gloucestershire had moved to 126-2, setting themselves up for a strong total.

Lissy Macleod continued to press on as she brought up her 50 in 53 balls.
