ANGRY Ian Millward strangled his wife's son. The 41-year-old had seen red and pushed his wife to the floor causing her son to swear at him.

- By Post & Times reporter

It was then that Millward flew into a rage, grabbed his victim around the neck, and forcefully strangled him. The victim believed he was going to die.

Now Millward, a hard-working man who had no previous convictions, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison, suspended for 18 months, at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The incident happened on January 2.

Prosecutor Omar Majid said the incident occurred after a row between Millward and his wife.

She went into the bedroom and saw the defendant in bed on his phone. She had asked him to make the bed but he had not done and when she asked what he had been doing he said he was on instagram. She threw an air freshener cap in his direction.

An argument started and one of her adult sons came into the room and told the defendant to calm down and to leave it.

Mr Majid said: “The defendant pushed past them. Her son told him to leave and stop being childish. The defendant stormed into the spare room and slammed the door. He held it shut. His wife tried to talk to him. The defendant opened the door and pushed her with two hands to the chest causing her to fall backwards across the landing.
