Traders have also been left frustrated by their new pitches being exposed to the elements with Preston's recent windswept weather seeing stock and tables lashed with rain as the Earl Street and Orchard Street ends of the market are more exposed to the elements.

Traders say stock was soaked by the weather

Kathryn Butler, who trades on the outdoor market every Tuesday and Thursday, had a meeting with the city council leader Matthew Brown.

She said: "We had a very productive meeting and we've also had the letter about the rent reductions through until January, which is fabulous.

"Footfall has been considerably lower since the move and we've all got bills the pay and that's really stressing a lot of us out.

"I would like to see them back in their usual spot and we will work with everyone to make this happen

"But the council leader and team were very keen to help us work through this and come to a solution."

Asked about any move back to the Lancaster Road trading place, Ms Butler said: "I'd be happy to see that, we all would.
