Market set to get makeover to bring it into 21st century

Garstang's historic indoor market looks set for a major makeover.

Plans are being drawn up for an internal and external revamp to make the mid-19th century building more comfortable for 21st century shoppers and stall holders.

The last major improvements were carried out nearly 30 years ago but the next revamp will be more radical - as well as more costly.

Garstang Town Trust has owned the premises for more than a century and recognises the need to keep pace with commercial trends and customer demands, as well as its role caring for the architecturally distinctive property.
