Two weeks into the school summer holidays and we're reaching the stage when parents or grandparents are becoming frazzled.
If you fall into this category and are desperate for diversion for your little darlings look no further than Haigh Woodland Park which is an outstanding amenity managed by Wigan Council. (See https://www.haighwoodlandpark.co.uk).
It boasts a range of outdoor activities suitable for a wide age range of youngsters—an adventure playground, high ropes (similar to “Go Ape”), adventure golf, crazy golf, footgolf as well as just plain ordinary golf for teenagers and adults and a miniature gauge railway and model railway.
“Weather!” I can hear you say. Well, that is covered too with the excellent Haigh Stables Gallery accessed through the Kitchen Courtyard.
Here children can while away time on art and craft activities under the guidance of expert volunteers. The Courtyard has a range of eateries and artisan shops if packing a picnic is too irksome.
Check out the website for special events which take place throughout the summer months-the artisan market (17th August) and brass band performances if you did pack a picnic! Add to all of the above a magnificent woodland park to explore with all sorts of hidden features adding to its allure. The walk described below allows the visitor to attain an overview of this marvellous attraction.
