Historic building could get better protection

An art deco building in the heart of Preston could be given new protection from demolition under plans to redraw the Market Place Conservation Area boundaries.
The Lancastria House was built as a show piece of the Lancastria Co-operative Society and has also been used as council offices and housed the Great Times Chinese restaurant.
The 1930s building was at one stage earmarked for demolition as part of the previous redevelopment plans to build what is now Animate but that decision was eventually reversed and the building stands.
