World Parrot Day brings attention to the birds - their dazzling feathers, clever minds and playful personalities.

There are more than a million kept in homes in the UK. These can range from budgies, finches and cockatiels to larger parrots like macaws and cockatoos.

Parrots-with ravens, crows, jays and magpies - are among the most intelligent birds and the ability of some species to imitate human speech enhances their popularity as pets.
