Background: The Ferret has a proud and storied history

The Ferret first opened as a pub in 1999 under the name Time Square.

It later became the Mad Ferret, and was renamed the Ferret in September 2013.
Its building was purchased by Music Venue Properties, the independent charitable community benefit society created by Music Venues Trust (MVT), in May 2024 after £2.5m was raised via a community share offer to save several local gig sites across the country.
The acquisition of the part three and part four-storey site - which had been placed up for sale by its previous owners in 2022 for £795,000 - was helped over the line with a £150,000 loan from Preston City Council.
