Growing Number Of Kashmiri Women Diagnosed With PCOS, Say Doctors

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), one of the most common hormonal disorders among women of reproductive age, is becoming a growing health concern in Kashmir and across the country.

Doctors warn that the lack of awareness and delayed treatment often worsen the condition, leading to infertility, diabetes, and heart problems later in life.

Dr Shazia, a Gynaecologist at GMC | Srinagar, explained that PCOS occurs when women's ovaries produce higher-than-normal amounts of male hormones (androgens). “This hormonal imbalance interferes with the regular release of eggs during the menstrual cycle. As a result, multiple small cysts can form in the ovaries,” she said.
