From Stigma to Choice: Menstrual Health Awareness Finds Space in Mir Behri
Kashmir Observer
|December 25,2025 Issue
In the quiet interiors of Dal Lake, where homes float on water and generations have lived with limited access to structured health education, a conversation long shrouded in silence found an open and welcoming space.
In Mir Behri, WeTheChange India, a New Delhi-based nongovernmental organisation, conducted a communitycentred menstrual health awareness programme, bringing dignity, choice and sustainability to a subject often considered private or even forbidden.
Founded on the belief that women's health is inseparable from human rights, environmental responsibility and social equity, WeTheChange India has steadily emerged as a leading voice in menstrual health education across the country. Its work seeks to challenge stigma, misinformation and silence-particularly in regions where geography, tradition and poverty combine to restrict access to reliable healthcare knowledge.
