Fresh Start for Govt Schools
Kashmir Observer
|FEBRUARY 20, 2026 ISSUE
As winter ends, educators face a test of belief and leadership in the valley's public schools, poised between a celebrated past and an uncertain present.
Winter break in Kashmir is ending. School gates will open after two long months. Loudspeakers will echo through our streets. Banners will announce, “Government schools are the best choice.”
Rallies will move through neighbourhoods with energy and hope. The new session will begin with promise in the air.
This annual moment always brings excitement. It also brings a question: How do we turn this noise into real trust?
Innovation keeps every system alive. Ideas must move from paper to practice. Effort must continue through every season.
Government school teachers in Kashmir work hard every day. They teach in tough conditions, and reach children who depend fully on public education.
The School Education Department has pushed reforms with focus and effort. We see improvement on the ground.
Still, the bigger shift must come from within our own staff rooms.
Educators in government schools hold a special responsibility. Primary and middle schools stand at the base of the entire system. These schools build reading habits, number sense, confidence, curiosity, and public trust.
When these foundations grow strong, the entire structure rises with them.
There is a simple truth in education. Make your garden beautiful, and butterflies will arrive.
