Spending review to be pivotal

WEDNESDAY'S spending review must prove once and for all that Labour is not seeking to plunge Britain into a new age of austerity.

The early signs are promising - free school meals for 500,000 more children; big transport projects outside the wealthy South of England, and Chancellor Rachel Reeves promising to spend £190billion more by the end of this parliament than when it began.
